Submit to indigo journal

We welcome submissions from all talented West Australian writers of poetry, short stories and personal essays. You are eligible to submit to indigo if you currently live in WA, were born here, or lived in WA at one time for at least 3 years. indigo journal pays contributors a minimum of $20 per poem and a minimum of $50 for prose. Copyright remains with individual contributors. All submissions are judged anonymously.

Poetry: Maximum of two poems no longer than 40 lines each.(including prose poems, excluding text breaks). Do not submit photos or graphics.
Short Story: Maximum one short story no longer than 3,500 words.
Personal Essays: Maximum one personal essay no longer than 3,500 words.(e.g. memoir, literary journalism, travel & culture)

Please note if guidelines are not followed accurately, your submission will not be accepted.

Work must be previously unpublished material, not submitted for any current competition. Format your manuscript in Times New Roman 12pt, double spaced with wide margins for comments. Use one side of the paper only. Please ensure all titles, headings and textual breaks are clearly marked. Do not put your name on your work. Please refer to previous volumes of indigo for further indications of our house style.

Send two hard copies of your submission through the post, accompanied by a cover sheet which includes: your name, address, phone number and email address, plus a biography of no more than 25 words. Clearly state the title(s) of your work, identifying poetry, prose, short story or personal essay. Indicate the number of lines in your poems and/or the number of words in your short story or personal essay.

We no longer provide feedback on all submissions. Work short listed for publication in indigo will be returned with any feedback received through the selection process. This is intended as an encouragement to writers with demonstrated talent.

A stamped self address envelope, or an international reply coupon will ensure the acknowledgment of your submission. A second stamped self addressed envelope will ensure the return of your work. If selected for publication, we will request a digital copy of your work sent by email, or CD.
